hacked: About Author About Author ================================================================================ Sanu Pal on 15 July, 2009 12:38:00 DEAR ALL I am Dr Sanu Pal, a qualified psychiatrist and achieved MBBS, DPM (Diploma in Psychological Medicine), MD, and FIPS (Fellow of Indian Psychiatric Society) and presently registered as psychiatrist with Medical council of India and New Zealand Medical council. Work experience: I worked as Residential Medical officer and clinical tutor in Psychiatry department of R.G. Kar Medical college, Kolkata, India; Senior Specialist Medical Officer (SSMO) and then as Chief of Psychiatry, Department of Health, Papua New Guinea; Consultant Psychiatrist (Senior Medical Officer), in Auckland District Health Board, New Zealand (current position); Consultant Psychiatrist in Bermuda Health Board, in Bermuda. I have been practising psychiatry since 1984 and have extensive experience in managing all types of patients from diverse country and culture. This includes, European, Asian (Chinese and Koreans, Japanese), African (Somalis, Ethiopians), South-east Asian countries, pacific islanders, middle-easterners, Latin Americans etc). I have practiced psychiatry in rural and urban areas of West Bengal, and so managed patients of different back ground and socioeconomic conditions and patients both in hospital and community settings. In Papua New Guinea, I was involved in development of ten year mental health planning for the country, apart from I was superintendent of Psychiatric Hospital at Port Moresby, and also taught at the University of Papua New Guinea. And in Auckland for about six years I was involved in development and lead psychiatrist of Trans-cultural Mental Health Service in Auckland. I was involved in preparing Interpreters user manual in Auckland. In Bermuda I was involved in Rehabilitation Psychiatry, also involved in learning disability and managing patients in prisons. Over the years I have noted that information of mental illnesses and cultural characteristics and managing mental patients in different cultural communities has not been adequate and beside that there is no reliable site that can address those issues. Information in local language in also is rare and not easily accessible. Doctors are also so busy that they find difficult to give enough information about mental illness, it’s signs and symptoms and it’s management, including the rehabilitation or recovery. This site will provide the above information and this can be accessed easily, the leaflets about patient information may be downloaded and printed free. Initially the information materials will be in English and Bengali, in near future it will be available also in Hindi. I would appreciate your comments so that the site can be improved and useful for patients, family and health workers. Please read the disclaimer before you access the information. other providers for the website will be included in near future.
